Just bought a 29 desoto. Body is covered in surface rust with some pits but no rust through. Is it better to have it dipped or cover it with rust converter type product? Body is totally disassembled and wood is out.

I had a '37 Ford dipped at a place called Chem-Strip in Detroit many years ago. Car was completely taken apart. The process was supposed to only remove the paint. They completely dissolved any die cast parts that I gave them. I have all my stuff blasted now.

Sand it with 80 grit on the DA. Wash it with a real good Metal prep Solvent ( wear gloves because it will burn you) and self etch it with a good 2 part acid etch primer.
Or have it soda blasted.

I'll do that on the outside but the crevices is what my thoughts are.
