the 318 in my belevedere is begining to fail on me i hear flat spots on the crank and it refuses to keep oil pressure its just tired and ready for a rebuild (hell its virgin from 67 lol) its my driver so i gotta get her patched up soon ive got a 88 tbi 318 sitting on the floor im gonna toss in till i can get my original block rebuilt . a buddie told me that these engines have better torq in the lower rpms because of the roller cam and dished pistons they came with i did a lil looking around on line but i cant find any hp/torq specs not that it matters still gotta do the swap i was just curious about that any info you guys have would be awesome !

they should be #302 closed chamber heads with flat top pistons about 20 in the hole

the tbi roller cam engines respond well to a carb and duels

I droped a lunati voodoo roller cam into my 88 engine and just pulled it and stuck it in a 91 tbi 318 with the 4-v/headers

knocks back 19 mpg in my 85 truck with a 29? gear

comp 901-16 springs are a good upgrade that drops on with stock seals and you can loose the rotoators on the exhast valves for more lift

will be a performance gain for sure but its stil a 150 HP 318

360 got dishes

85 318s got the closed chamber swirlport fast burn combustion chambers(hart shaped) and a taller pist hight for a 9.0 to 1 comp ratio

that and a low friction roller cam gave it a nice boost over a older LA low comp 318.

the 88 360 headed cop engine I had was a flat tappet can but roller block,so it got a roller cam swap back in 07'

just pulled it after 300,000 miles and stuck the roller cam in another low milage 318 with #302 heads

between the 2 head set ups and valve size, the 360 were the best for HP/rpm and ran well on the street.

the small valves higher comp ratio has more throttle responce, more low end torque, but less top end HP and breathing.

torque is kinda peaky and higher up in rpm with less breathing up top

but i like the lunati voodoo roller cam 60710

258/264
207/213
.485/.485

great street cam for daily driveing a 318

Better torque is primarily because of
1. increased compression ratio and
2. the stock cam is a step or two larger than a stock '60s 318 cam.

Run it and see what you think. I think you'll like it.
