I saw all these great posts so I thought I would share my car with those who might have some interest. If nothing else I am more inspired toi get this car ready for this summer.

What I have is a 68 Hemi Road Runner with 18k original miles. Black over red interior, factory red painted pin stripe, manual steering, am radio, tach, 3.23 and the 15 inch turbine style hubcaps. When I got the car it was still 100% original paint. I had the original owners name in the owners manual and finally contacted him after four years of half heartedly searching for him. I spoke with him for almost an hour about the casr from the day he bought it until the day he sold it. He was happy to find out it still existed and sounded like the nineteen year old guy again on the phone that bought it new. He had many war stories to tell from his day two modifications to his street racing episodes! I am not sure if we are permitted to post old war stories but if some of you are interested I can do that. This car has some quirky things about it that I did not understand which he explained. I love talking to old timers about the old days when these cars were new! Here are some pics of the car when I started on it:. The rust was limited to the lower 1/4's on each side. There was a 1'x1' section in the center of the trunk also.

Since Scott from Harms Auto posted in I'll show you his restoration on the carbs I bought from him. The date code is G7 and my build date is 4/15. Would these be correct?? It does not matter but I never did ask. Since I got them from Harms I had them totally disassembled and blueprinted and put back together. They were test run and performed flawlessly. I am going to race in the pure stock drags with this car. I did find out that stock 625 afb's only flow about 585 cfm each. LOL I don't know where you got these carbs from but they work very good.... I have had some real bad oem carbs in the past

I had no idea we had done business!

*Yes G7 (July 1967) is acceptable for your cars April 15, 1968 SPD, carb date codes varied wildly with Hemis so as long as they pre date your engines build date (usually by a minimum of a few weeks or more) you are good to go.

There are no holes for the "hemi" emblem which is supposed to be on the upper left hand side. Many people tried to tell me the decklid was changed out at some point. When I spoke the original owner and asked about this he told me that at some point he had the back seat out and found a hemi emblem laying under thew bottom cushion. I think the assembly line worker threw it in the car when he /she could not find the proper place to drill the hole. The original owner never figured out where it was supposed to go until I told him there shouild have been one on the decklid. He still has it and said he would give it to me when I drive the car over to show him. Apparently they must have had two different dec klids on the assembly line ..... one with dimples for the location of the holes and one for non hemi cars??????

Hey The Emblem should be on the upper right hand side above the finish panel. If you or setting in the car the emblem shoulb be on the right side. coupe cars had it on the left side and no finish panel.

MO, you have it sort of right. Actually cars that came with the decor package (which included the rear finish panel trim) had the deck lid emblem on the passenger side, cars without the decor package (plain deck lid with no trim) had them emblem on the drivers side.

What a great color combo for your Hemi car...Black over red.. ...Growing up as a kid a neighbor had a burgundy with black gut hemi car with auto on the column/bench seat...The Hemi emblem was on the drivers side...

With such low miles how did the quarters end up needing patch work?? Sat outside?? Michigan winters?? Sat on dirt or grass??

Its a beautiful machine..

1972 Road Runner / GTX 440 4spd Dana 3.54 Just about to turn 26K original miles..

A boat, a GMC truck, some Craftsman Tools, LOTS of Zombie Protection, and a few Goldfish..

If you love someone set them free..
If they come back it means nobody else wanted them either..!!

This is the way the car has sat for three years now.... rebuilt front and rear suspension, side marker lights, NOS tail lights and restored finish panel.

The original owner of this car traded in a corvette on this car. When he arrived at the dealership and spoke with a salesman he said he wanted something a littrle faster than a 383 RR. All the cars out front were 383's. The salesman took him back to some special room and showed him this car..... He bought it on the spot and while driving it home, he thought to himself did he make a mistake? He said it was not very impressive with the 323 gears. Day two... he installed a set of cragers, headers, 4.56 gear, isky cam ( look at the pics of the underside of the decklid!), cheater slicks and rejetted the carbs. The car was a mid eleven second car now. Today thats not fast for a street car but I think it was quite fast for 1968. He said he would sit at home waiting for people to call and challenge him to race. He said while he owned it the car was undefeated on the street until the time he sold it. The only car to beat him was some guy who brought out a full boogie race car camaro. I have talked to a guy that used to frequent the same hangouts back then and said this was all true! Sometimes old age and years cloud the truth but in this case it was the truth.

Its about time you dusted that thing off and started to get it finished. You were getting close to my 8 year time frame there!

The before pictures don't do this car justice. Ive known Pete for years and this car was a very clean original car. The suspension and component parts were all just as rust and pit free. Very neat car!

I finally finished one center and stainless cap!! It took almost an hour to use 1/8 inch pin stripers tape to mask off each fin on the stainless cap. I had to strip all the paint off the back side and hand paint the orange and black. I used non smudge aluminum on the sides and Alclad for the chrome part. I finished it off with a grey top coat to look original. It took alot of time.... three more.

finally got around to installing the rear bumper. just got the head light bezels back from anodizing so I can work on installing the front bumper and grill. It feels good to get the bumpers out of my basement after sitting for 6 years done and ready to install. I can't wait to get the bench seat out!

Regarding the Hemi emblem under the rear seat. I've heard from several old timers who worked on the assembly lines back in the day here in Detroit, that during final assembly, whatever small parts they couldn't fit to the car in, were thrown into the car in the rear seat floor area as the car went down the line. Then, upon delivery to the dealer, it was then up to the dealer to remove the rear seat cushion and find, fix, or put on any parts found under the rear seat. This happened at Ford and GM plants too.

Awesome car and progress! Keep it going!
