I have a problem with the belt on my 97 Caravan 3.3L-when I hit a large puddle at slow speeds the belt goes. I was told years ago that the factory belts were(some) bad and that was the problem. Last March I put on a nice Gatorbelt by Goodyear and today the stupid thing went off after hitting a big puddle going about 20 mph. Yesterday we drove 80 miles in the pouring rain down the highway at 70+ and nothing happened. Anyone have a fix? Could it just be the tensioner, which is in fact the original. But way back in like 2000 when we had the first problem the van was only 3 yrs old with less than 20K on it, so the tensoiner probably was fine. This cat is confused!

It sounds like some sort of spalsh guard is needed to keep the water off.

Gates makes a nice upgrade for this issue, it comes with a belt and a new pully that has a groove on it, instead of the smooth pully that gets wet then the belt slips off..

I got the splash guard, doesn't help. But will try the Gates Enhancement Kit!

DakotaDon has it covered. Belt problems were common on those- pretty sure there is a TSB about it.

Saw a lot of them with thrown belts. Some threw them a lot more than others.Never could understand why the same vehicles one throws a belt one wont.Installed the Gates kit on quite a few and never had any problems.Rocky
