I have one inch of travel in mine. We just used a cable set up. I think I got it from RJ racecars. IMO you definitely need to limit that much travel. 5" in a front strut is a HUGE number. I think my Strange Struts only have 2.5" of travel to begin with.

Mine is back-halved and front-halved and I'm running the Strange GT struts and I have 5+" of travel. But it's not a chasis car and chasis cars don't typically run the GT struts and only have 3" or so of travel total and like Al said, they limit them.
