ok i found a 70 rt chall that has been in the same family since '71 but has been repainted twice and the fender tag is not very easy to read.

what would be the easiest way for them to expose the digits on the tag without damaging the surrounding paint?

Unscrew it and soak it in paint stripper ?

Or just read it from the back side as well...

Take a reasonably high res picture of the back and use software to flip it. Very simple to do.........

Why take the paint off, just read it from the back, very easy. You don't have to be a scientist to do it..........I've used a glass bead blaster to remove paint/rust on several. Good luck let us know what ya got there!

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

if the car is getting restored or fixed up, why not media blast the paint away? bead blasting should remove the paint, but shouldn't mess up the stamped metal. if it does, then you're probably using steel shot instead of glass bead!

**Photobucket sucks**

1) the mirror trick then flip works well

2) why not just strip it?

3) I'm sure bead blasting would work, but I would chemically strip it myself

It's a real nice driver with 2 repaints so tag is hard to read

friend put me onto it as it's not advertised

the owner got it from his brothers estate and thinks the leather seats, louvers and go wing are factory options

going to put deposit once i get the tag pic

If its been repainted with the tag in place, then unscrewing it will mess up the paint. The paint will need to be cut of the edges before removing, but you will still have a place for the paint to start to lift later.
