Is it Ok to run the a/c compressor without it being hooked up? To explain a little further I am installing a 6.1 into a b body and know that I will have to notch the k-member and want to do that and install the compressor now, but not necessarily install the rest of an a/c system right now. So the belt will be routed around the pulley as if it was functional. Will it hurt the compressor or just act like a dummy pulley? Thanks for the advice

OK as long as you do not apply power to the clutch and engage the compressor. Make sure/double check the compressor clutch wire is not connected to anything and is insulated (taped). Then let her rip. I ran a BB engine swap this way for a while and no problem. As long as the compressor itself is not turning it doesn't hurt anything.
