I just spent two hrs trying to put a ring on a wheel. I'm trying to put an NOS 14" trim ring on an original 14"X 5.5" PN 2944252 wheel. I get the ring to go on 2/3 of the way then I can't go any further. What I think is happening is the inner part of the ring, where the springy part is spot welded is too large. I noticed there is a gap on all the rings, but I would think if they would of closed the gap before welding that would make the cicumference smaller. I measured the cicumference and it measures 44". Has anyone had trouble with these, can anyone who has an 14" ring measure that area around. Any help would be gratly appreciated. Can you break the welds, close it, and re-weld without damaging the ring. Thanks

I'm just thinking, maybe this isn't a mopar trim ring. Anyone can tell me what to look for?

So a picture of the front face showing the outside edge.
Did the come in Mopar NOS boxes with part numbers on them?

I will get a picture of the front face tomorrow and yes they were in a mopar box, part number ended with 424, again I will verify and post as they are in the garage.

Then I measured the inside part on the rim which that part would fit in, it measures 13 3/4". It is out 3/16". From the scratches on the paint from trying to install it is also telling me that it is bottoming out on that part and won't go down any further.
First can someone confirm it is in fact a mopar ring. I attached the package that it came in but that does not guarantee anything.
Has anyone ever encounterd this? These ring were manufactured in 2002 according to the sticker. I keep on coming back to that gap in my first picture.
Any insight would be great. If they are the correct rings then I'm tempted to grind those spot welds, that will give it some room to squeeze but I'm not sure what that will do to its ability to hold on without rewelding them.
Any suggestions???

Oh, the other piece of information is that the ring measures 2" to the bottom of the fron lip when on a flat surface

I recall someone else on here having a problem with the new mopar trim rings. Something about the way they were welded and the length of the clips. try here https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=6672585
Hey thanks for finding that, that is exactly the same issue I have. I bought these rings many years ago, just installing them now. I believe the circumference is too big, not welded properly.

Same problem I had. Even if you do get them on, they will wobble when you spin the wheel since that spot weld is crooked and will hold the trim ring farther from the wheel at that spot. Also, look how the mounting ring is covering part of your valvestem hole. These are Mopar rings but they had production problems on the later ones.
Ditto for mine. Early 2000's never fit properly, never did try to resolve the fit...

Same story here. Back in 2000 I bought 4 of that same part# from the local Chrysler dealer for my Swinger 340 that was being restored. In 2002 when I went to install them... very poor fit!! It was the lesser of two evils, in spite of the poor fit they still looked better than the old banged up ones. I would appreciate if you would post how/if you fix them. Even after 10 years I may try to fix them if you have success.
