I have a rust free Dart with a spool mount k-frame and a 440-727. What is the cheapest way to mount them in and what about exhaust manifolds/headers? This is going to be a fast street car with no heater or air. Schumacher mounts or late c-body engine mounts? Please someone help me with this project!

If you have a small block spool k-member, build a copy of the old Direct Connection k-member. You can't install the engine cheaper if you can cut and weld. Directions are in the tech pages at www.bigblockdart.com.

I used Schumacher mounts and Hooker Supercomps for my 440-727 swap. Did it for real cheap. ($150 for mounts and headers.) With that being said, all my swap stuff has been used because thats all I can afford

68-70 (& prob later) HP ex manifolds flow well/fit perfect & Andy made 550 horsepower w them on a 470 build (use dynomax muffs/mandrel bends/X pipe)

Everyone wants to show you how smart they are and jump in and tell you exactly how to do it.
The proper place to start is to know more about you and your circumstances.
How old are you.
What are your skills.
What $ resources do you have.
Etc, etc, etc.............

fast and manifolds don't go together unless your are building a FAST car. Fenderwell headers would be the easiest however there are under chassis headers available for A-bodys now. They are a PITB to hang (from what I'm told). Not sure about the mounts, most guys w/ 440 A's go w/ Schumacher mounts. Another thing I've seen is goinf with braded brake lines from the master cylinder out. This way you can move it out of the way when needed.

I am not a kid by any means. I am 41 years old and have access to most machinery. I just want to know the most economical means to accomplish this as I am trying to juggle 3 projects at the same time. Is there a decent set of headers under $200.00 to make this work or am I stuck with the $600.00 versions?

I am just dropping a used engine and trans into this to have a reasonably fast street car. No drag strips in my future.

No , the quick and cheap exhaust is to use HP manifolds unless you can find a cheapy set of used B/E 1 3/4 tube headers , those are said to work with a little

the hedman b/e(pn ends in 030) headers will only work with a 383/400. as said above they require lots of modification to work with a 440. i have these headers in my 71 dart w/400. they are tight now requireing many dings, i cant imagine the headache of making them work with a 440. i used a modified 73+ k-frame(per the bigblockdart tech pages) and the 73+ BB spool mounts.

These come up from time to time on e-bay...Tri-Y, They seem to fit A-bodys pretty good. No idea what they cost.

Those are the Schumacher headers, small tube-basically between a manifold and a full lenght header. $525 uncoated per their website.

For some reason I though the schu's were shorter and used a Ball and Socket for the outlet ???

But just looked and you are correct .
