I have a 318 4 speed rr that is becoming 470 lowdeck 4 speed,My question is the car factory was 3 speed in floor and dad put 4spd in in late 70`s I have a foctory auto console and would love to make it 4spd in console would the auto console work.If so what would need to be changed to make it work.I didn`t no if the shifter was further back in a console car.Any help would be great thanks.

The top metal insert is different. The hole is larger to accommodate the shift boot. You can get new plates or enlarge the one you have.

Also the side of the base has a larger cut out. Somebody used to sell a template to trim an Auto console to make it a manual console or you can just trim as needed to be sure it doesn't damage the shift boot.

Lastly, you will also have to make a new front console mount as the Auto console uses the same bracket that holds the shifter but it isn't a big deal.

Yes it will work with some modifications. You will need a 4 speed top plate and you will have to trim your auto console to fit around the 4 speed hump. There is a pattern floating around some where on the web but if you purchase the top plate from some ebag sellers they will usually include the pattern.

Assuming your hump is in the bucket seat position not in the bench seat position.

I think the humps are different for b bodies with bench or buckets. E bodies are all the same because you could not get bench with a 4 speed. I thought from our question it had buckets in it already. Brewers can set you up with the right hump.

Yes, for the 71-74 b bodies, the hump is different for bench versus bucket. You will need a bucket hump if you want to use a stock console. If you decide you want to buy a hump, PM me as I have a new in box one I no longer need.
