After about an hour from when I had last driven my '67 Fury, I attempted to start it and it turned over but only sputtered and stalled. I checked for fuel at the carb and it was getting it. I then replaced the ballast resistor but no go. I removed the distributor cap and turned the engine over with a remote starter button. The points were opening and closing as they should. I checked the wires inside the distributor for shorts but they appeared to be ok. I put the cap back on and tried to start and it fired right up and is now running fine. Could moving those wires around have done something or could it be a failing condenser or ignition coil? I am afraid to go anywhere now until I can solve this problem. The car has been running fine until this. Thank you for any info.
John

unfortunatly one offs are hard to diagnose.

and yes messing with wires could have changed something. or it might not.

could be as simple as heat soak, could be worse.
hard to tell unless it does it again.

then see if it will start after a couple of trys.

sp/st like it was getting fire and wanted to start but just couldn't quite do it? Any possibility it flooded (leaking needle/seat or the choke closed)? EDIT w more thought I think what Andrewh said it just heat soaked a bit too much

Thank you for your responses. The choke was open but the flooding possibility is worth checking for sure. If it occurs again, I will attempt to look for these symptoms.

Is it a two barrel or four barrel Carter Carb.? Check to see if it is bioling the fuel out f the venturi after sitting a short while when hot Todays crappy gasoline is not the best anymore,it is intended to be used in high pressure EFI, not in carbs No where near as good as it use to be it sounds to me like it boiled the fuel and flooded the motor, if it does it again keep the throttel on the floor and keep cranking the starter until it starts and clear the manifold out of the excess boiled gasoline : It may take twenty to fifty seconds on the starter if that is it

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
