When I built my garage, I put 3 inch PVC piping in the floor for venting the exhaust outside. I ran a pipe on the inside of the back wall but now need to figure out how to finish it. I was going to run a pipe through the back wall and install a fan (like the fans used in the newer furnaces) to draw the fumes out. Has anyone done this before? If so, can you provide pictures? Where is the best place to buy the rubber hose, etc.?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You wouldn't say that if you lived in Michigan in the middle of January...

Google "hvac booster blower"

https://www.google.com/search?q=hvac+boo...lient=firefox-a

Not sure if they can handle the heat / moisture, but maybe (at least for a while)?

Does it exit out the wall, or?

Sorry should have read your post more closely... I looked for the hose before, it is available at a variety of places. Summit, JEGS, other online vendors, etc. Stuff is not exactly cheap.

The lines in the floor is an interesting idea... have to remember that one. I was just going to lay the hose on the floor and exit it out a single 3-4" hole in the door. Thinking a little swinging plate with a wing nut to keep it close when not it use.

that's how i did mind. exhaust swing flap came with my garage door. i used a 3" exhaust pipe hooked to a dryer vent through the back wall. works great. the hose is a little pricey. seeya.

Anytime you are exhausting gases, you must know the content of those gases. With a race engine, there is alot of unburned gasoline when the engine is cold. The spark on an open electric fan motor can ignite that unburned fuel and blow back into your shop. A 10'length of flex pipe will remove most of the exhaust. You should always have adequate ventilation at all times.

true, and maybe the solution, if possible, is to fit your HVAC system in the shop with a way to go "positive pressure" which forces air into the building so that your exhaust gasses get pushed out by the positive pressure?

sounds expensive though. if you can't find an explosion proof blower fan option for inside the pipe, then I'd just make sure there's very little restriction so that it can flow straight out, and let the engine push the fumes out.

Had similar to photo in two of the overhead doors in my old shop in NH....heated shop....pretty simple setup that worked well with just hoses stuck out through the ports
