Close VINs & SPDs will not tell you much. Parts were mixed as they came in & some close VINs were built thousands of cars apart at Hamtramck. If both cars have broadcast sheets I can tell you how many builds apart they really were, but that will not help with the leaf spring color. I have to wonder how many cars were built with a black spring one one side & a natural spring on the other too.

The aar I did last year, original low mileage car looked to be bare, but after cleanup I found some black paint. So went with paint before reinstalling.

I bought Troy's T/A back in August 2010, you are correct the leaf springs were black.

Your right Joe, when I first got that AAR, I checked it over well and they did show remnants of black paint here and there.
