The noise being more noticable when fluid is hot ..could indicate what? Tooo much backlash? 3;55in 741 case {non collapsable spacer changed yoke only}} ?? Backlash .007 - .008 if I remember correctly .

something ain't right. prolly pinion depth. 8.75 should be be absolutely silent in every operating regime. i reckon.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Need more information what changed or has this third member been noisy from day one, how much time on the gear set total? Have you treid isolating the noise to make sure that it is in the ring and pinion yet? If not do that first how much and what type fluid are you using in it?

Factory original 3:55 741 case gears changed the large yoke to small, had added a sure grip prior aand it was still silent at that stage ..I never touched the pinion shims so really the only thing that should be off would be the backlash ?? I measured it at the time {1year ago} I thought I had set it @.008" . No whine when cold but after driving 10 mins a whine picks up ,more noticeable under acel but present under coast as well . For a 4 spd car I hear of others going as tight as .004 ".Should I try .o04 if it has to come out again.I only put about 50 miles on it with the noise. Thanks

Could just be a coincidence, but I would check a wheel bearing. I had changed the ring and pinion one time from a 3.23 to a 3.91, everything was fine for awhile. Not long after that, the rear got a whine to it. Figured it couldn't be the rear, everything was new. Checked the one wheel bearing, it was going bad. Changed them both out, everything quiet again.

I would pull it & see what you do have now for backlash & post it & I would not drive it as more miles wears in the improper adjustment (for the worse), aggravating it & might not be able to adj all (or most) of it(the noise) out

Yeah I'm not sure if you'd go tighter or looser tho 1st thought was tighter (but not sure). I'm getting ready to do my 1st R&P as how hard can it be as there's only pinion depth (forward/backward) and backlash (in/out). I did add a sure grip to a 7&1/4 and months later it has a ton of backlash (no noise tho) and I merely duplicated the tightest backlash reading I got w the open before I opened it up which was kind of disheartening & dont think I forgot to tighten anything & it had the threaded side wheel locks in place so...
