Prolly not the case here but my '58 chevy has so much blow by, that within 500 miles the oil is BLACK. And it's really clean inside the valve covers and lifter valley. I would try this on yours. http://www.auto-rx.com/

I would change it & if the next batch gets dark fast I'd look for the cause, dirty air, blowby. Something's making it change color & as you noted your other one does not. Before you reinstall the drain plug toss a qt or 2 in to flush the last remnants of the black oil out
live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth

good oil gets black fast, its the detergents cleaning the inside of the engine. with that amount of drive time and that much sitting time I would change it. at the 3 months or 3,000 miles. with it not getting hot to burn of moisture/acidic contaminates it has got black fast and is most likly contaminated sitting 10 months. send a sample for a oil analyssis to see what its like on my new engine build I changed oil as soon as it got black for the first yr,then it stayed clean longer inbetween oil changes and got black about 3,000 miles. I know it seems like a waste to change oil from sitting only 3 months, but it does get contaminated with very little run time and only sitting. also the brand of oil will make a differance on how fast it gets black, the faster the better the oil and is working like it should cleaning the carbon deposits out.

It's simply not possible to determine the actual condition of motor oil by looking at it's color. For example, take a look at this video: Busting Oil Change Myth - link If you're really concerned and want to set aside speculation, you could send in a used oil sample and get a lab report back that shows the actual condition of the oil and if the engine has any deficiencies you may not know about. For example, excess fuel dilution, dirt intrusion thought the air filter or intake, an internal coolant leak, etc. Also, nothing wrong with Pennzoil. In the 1930s it wasn't that great, but today it's a good oil. Any name brand oil that's SN/GF-5 rated has good cleansing ability as specified by the API the spec.

Someone mentioned testing. You may be surprised to find you are throwing away good oil. I believe car guys use from 2-3 times the amount of oil they have to.
doggy .....just car guys ? ... how about the general public? ... they are OVER SOLD on all types of car-stuff.
And don't get me started on the medical profession..... just a little TIDbit ... WHERE are all the CURES for all our ills that have been promised for decades ?
There are basically NONE ...and never will be. BECAUSE ... as some even in the medical profession say .. they is NO MONEY in a cure ... it is all-in a many-times never-ending TREATMENTS.
And to ON TOPIC ... the soccer mom who takes her minivan to the oil-change-place .... they are NEVER going to say "your oil is OK". They are going to try and convince her to get a change every 3k miles ....even though it will go 7.

Yep have it tested - these guys need to make a living too. Likely cost more than just changing the oil. Oh yeah that's right there is an oil shortage. Bakken Formation in North Dakota could boost America’s Oil reserves by an incredible 10 times, giving western economies the trump card against OPEC’s short squeeze on oil supply and making Iranian and Venezuelan threats of disrupted supply irrelevant. There is more oil under ND, MT., & Saskatchewan than future generations will ever use. In fact the oil boom is causing big problems. elderly and other people on fixed incomes can no longer afford the rents being charged other things that they need are priced out of range by people out to make killing and are being forced to move.

You forgot to add, "and sell her an air filter or other not needed product."

Even the "oil-change-places" may be recommending something other than 3k miles... Jiffy Lube Retires 3000-mile Rule - Article
According to a recent survey by the NPD Group, 51% of motorists believe oil should be changed every 3-months or 3000-miles, down from 59% in 2007 - Article link
Slow but sure. What the owners manual actually says and what the "oil-change-places" are starting to say may be resonating with the consumer.

The oil analysis is about the cost of one oil change give or take. The empowerment of increased awareness and attendant cost savings starts soon after, e.g., Had no idea there was a small coolant leak at the head gasket slowly zapping the life out of the oil and the engine or that one leaky fuel injector was diluting the oil. No wonder the fuel economy wasn't what it used to be... One oil analysis report away.
