Checking things out on the install prior to firing the motor my oil filter has about 1/4 clearane to the exhaust pipe is this normal on a 340. I do not have the adaptor on it just a standard straight installation.

Looks like a short filter would clear alot better
but that is real close

Make sure you can get it off. If you installed that exhaust after installing the filter, you might be in for a surprise.

I couldn't run a long filter on my 340 with stock exhaust for that reason.

I know I guy with a 90 degree adapter for sale that could help that situation.

I can fix it... my old man is a television repairman.
He's got the ultimate set of tools... I can fix it.

Currently Mopar-less

Napa/Wix #1068 is the shorter chrysler, 1515 is the big boy.
(Just for reference,1085 is even shorter than the 1068 and also will fit if anyone needs it)

You can run the long filter even with headers. I accidently bought the long NAPA filter. I had to tighten it up with my leather belt though as I couldn't get my strap wrench on it.

1970 FE5 Duster 360/904/3.91's SOLD 1973 TB3 SpaceDuster 340/4spd/4.10's SOLD Moparless for now but when the opportunity is right I'll have another one.

I have run the skinny short filter(mini filter) from a 2.2 or ferd 3.0 engine for more clearance.

about 1/2 the size round and about the same length as a short fat filter.

maybe an option,I have run them on SB with headers for yrs with no problems.

If you use the adapter you will have plenty of room to use the filter of your choice. I run the Mopar L-72 and have at least 2" of clearence.

Also...if you use the adapter, put a copper washer between the bolt head and the housing. Just use a copper washer, with no other nylon gaskets/washers along with it. Use the other gaskets where they're supposed to go. That's the only way I've ever found to seal those things up!

Many choices

and none are skinny like a mini fliter

i ran one for header clearance as the 90* adaptors are not that good on flow unless they are cleaned up and then drilled to 1/2' with a radius/blending on the turns.

the mini is a tad bigger round than the rubber gasket seal at the filter plate

those in the pic are short to long but all the same size round

and they are all FRAM filters
