I can't believe that I have to grind for clearance on my EZ1's. This is only a .600 lift cam with 1.5 rockers and yet the pushrods hit !! Sometimes I wonder if they wouldn't have been better if they'd been made in China !

Anyhow, now that I'm done whining, is there a neater way to do this than grinding? I don't own a mill but a friend does. If that's the way to go, what sort of cutter would I need? Is doing them in a drill press an option?

had to do the same thing with the victor m/w heads. just used a carbide ball cutter in a die grinder. i was doing this during the mock up, not an assembled engine. just take your time and it will come out nice.

You can do them on the mill but I cant say its worth
all the set up time for each one... I did this on my
B-1 M/Cs ... I used a 1/2" end mill but I had to take
alot of material out

If it's bad on a flat tappet RB I can assure you it's WORSE on a Roller Low deck

It's all part of the Aluminum head Max wedge game

Bridgeport is quickest if you have access, if not a high speed carbide works well to. I've also jigged the heads on an engine stand so you can hit them all pretty quick, it's generally just the intakes.

Yep, did the same on mine. I only had a couple that were touching. It was still well worth the effort.

people want to build custom engines but dont want to do the custom work that goes with it...

Yep, Indy leaves a lot of extra material on the heads. It would be nice if they ran a CNC program in the pushrod area and opened them up for 7/16 or even 1/2 pushrods. Edelbrock is even worse, they leave about 2 lbs of extra material on the Victor heads.

I put my EZ heads in the mill and went after them with a long end mill. Just be careful around the intake port.

On the contrary! I expect someone manufacturing custom, high performance heads to do their homework so that when I run a relatively mild cam and valvetrain setup it should work without having to touch it. If I were running a .750 lift cam and 1.6 rockers I'd expect to have to do some fitting.

I agree with you for the most part. with a name like EZ and using mild parts It should almost be a bolt on.
I am doing a set of CNC victor max wedge port head with 1.7 rockers and very high lift. there is soo much material I have to remove it is not at all funny
had them on a mill to remove a good part of it, may have to just touch up with carbide bits when its near enough to do another pre assembly.

You could do like I did as I bought mine from Dwayne Porter and he already did it before I got mine. Ron
