any performance gains going from a 6 series to a 7 series msd box? my box has 137MJ/525V and the 7 series is 190MJ/535V.

Don't know if this helps but we're going to piggy back a MSD power grid on our 6AL this year rather than upgrade to a 7.

might be off topic but I'm thinking of going w/ the Summit MSD, it has a built in rev limiter...all for $149

At the risk of going off-topic, isn't that a reverse-engineered Chinese 6AL?

How about a lightly used 7530 box

I just thought maybe the extra millijoules might make a cleaner burn and alittle more power. whats the diff. between the 7520 and the 7530 Al? currently using the summit 6 box made by mallory.

I don't know about the millijouls or whatever that is but I can switch back and forth between a 6AL and a 7AL box all day long and run the exact same ET. Done it several times clean down to 7 second ET's normally aspirated.

Boosted or Nitrous setups would be a different story.

The only time your going to see a measurable difference is if the 6 unit is not up to the load needed to meet your motors ignition needs That being said I'm a firm believer in having more than you need on some race parts, feul supply, valve spring pressure, tire bite and so on. I have been using the MSD 7 series boxes and appropriate coils for years on all of my cars

We did back to back tests this year at Norwalk. Switching to the Analog 7 and coil leaned my Hemi out considerably. ET picked up all the way down the track until the chip hit it. Go for the 7.

That test is inconclusive at best.

How much for the 7530 Al? I was looking at using the 7520 digital box. I will be using a 1050 or the SV1,so maybe the 7 box would be an advantage. My 408 is still on pump gas@10.5:1.

Sorry to hi jack the thread but the main reason we'll be going to the Grid is 'cause we're also upgrading to a crank trigger.
The programmable functions can be found here:
http://www.msdignition.com/Products/Igni...oller_Only.aspx

I will post feedback but our season doesn't start 'til May next year

the 7530 is fully programmable the 7520 is not, ie rev limits timing curves etc..
