Yes it's the same.
Idle cannot be set like a carb. The PCM has a target idle speed, ad adjusts the idle air solenoid to allow more or less air to the motor to adjust the idle to target. Its also a "learned" adjustment, the computer learns over time where to set the solenoid for target idle. If you had the battery off, then the PCM "lost" the memory, and has to re-learn idle. This may require some 2-foot driving to keep it from stalling until it re-learns.

Were you getting a mis-fire code before you changed plugs?
If the idle was a little unstable before you changed plugs, change out the cap and rotor. Had the same problem with my '01. Rotor was pooched.

Yes, firing order is the same.1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 clockwise rotoation. #1 cylinder on left,D/S with the other odds, even on the right. #1 cylinder position on distributor cap is (if looking over the top) just left of the square looking side of the cap where it bolts to distributor. HTH

if your battery was dead, and you swapped it out, then your PCM is already set and yes, you might have to 2-foot it for a few days till it re-learns idle.
cap/rotor is routine maintenance on these too.

Those were known for sucking oil in the intake... also check the under side of the throttle body for carbon which screws up the idle air motor... clean that with carb cleaner or brake cleaner... also see if you get a O2 code... the O2 sensor could be fouled which will give bad performance and bad mileage

if you have oil in the intake, chances are you need to pull the intake and repair the gasket on the bottom plenum. (the intake is cast with an open bottom, then it's sealed with a sheetmetal cover and a paper gasket and about 10 bolts) when that goes out, the engine sucks oil up from the valley, fouls out plugs, kills fuel mileage, makes the engine ping under WOT, and make you think that the 360 is a dog.
I didn't mention that before, figured the issue was just old worn out plugs

ok, if your old plugs looked good, then your intake plenum gasket is probably fine. as P-body said though, open the throttle plates on the TB and look down with a flashlight. should be dry.
the good news about the 5.2 and 5.9L engines, is that they're exactly the same as the old 318s and 360s. there's a few minor differences like stud mounted rockers vs shaft mounted rockers, oil through pushrods, roller cams, but those are all very minor changes. the most dramatic thing is the EFI intake manifold. once you figure out what the engineers were thinking with the programming, they're easy to work on!

If you suspect the intake/pan gasket leaking, try this test. with the engine running, remove the oil fill cap and lay a thin piece of paper-like a napkin-- over the hole. It should pus out, NEVER draw in. If it draws in the gasket most likely is the problem.
BTW, I owned two different magnum engines that had the gasket changed under warrantee. both still leaked and I got a good deal on those trucks.
Pulled the intake and found the 'mechanic', 'trouble shooter', 'parts changer, didn't pay attention to his own work. On both, the bolts bottomed out before the washer contacted the pan on MOST bolts. Apparently the holes were not drilled deep enough!!! I simply added two washers to each and checked each before final torque.

Most of all Howard, thank you for the update! It helps everyone out. Sometimes we get on here and offer advice and solutions and never hear back from the from the person asking for help.
