I was looking in my shop manual at the procedure to replace the rear wheel bearing on my '67 Fury with 8 3/4 rear end. It says to pack the bearing with wheel bearing grease which I have always done. Is that what lubricates the bearing at all times? It seems to me that I heard in the past that the inner seal allowed a certain amount of gear oil to contact the bearing and that the outer seal that fits into the retainer plate prevents the oil from contacting the brake linings etc. Is that correct or is the bearing just lubricated by the grease?
Thanks for any info here.
