My drivers door window really rattles when I slam the door shut. What could be causing this, is the track worn out? I'm trying to educate myself before I tear it apart for a look.

I see where they are making window rollers for E-body:

What other door/window hardware is being made?

How about taking the door panel off and just move stuff around. See if you can find the source.

What kind of rattle? Metalic sound, or dull thud?

The design is a bit rattle prone... that said, there are adjustable stops near the top of the door shell to limit the movement of the glass. The stops are rubber and fiber coated. There are 4 (from memory) on each side. On mine, the rubber and fiber were shot. A rebuild kit from Year One had the rubber parts. For the fiber part, I used indoor/outdoor carpet glued to the cleaned up metal stops with trim adhesive.

The FSM has the adjustment procedure.

Restored and adjusted, the rattles are reduced.

...but they always rattle some...

or if you make it rattle free, it will stay like that only for a short time...

one of the E Body things you just have to live with.

You can also check at the bottom of the track that is bolted to the bottom of the door has a piece that gets lose sometimes. That can rattle even when your driving. Make sure everything is tight inside, but be carefull on tightning the bolts that goes through the glass. If you have a remote mirror, make sure the cable didn't come free from it's inside clips. There is also the long rod to the door lock that has a sock over it to prevent rattling. And then sometimes it is just 40 years of old bones.

Thanks guys... The noise I hear is kinda like glass rattling on metal. If I grab the top of the glass and move it from side to side, it sounds like it is slapping up against something metal up by the remote mirror adjuster...will go out there and see if I can find exact cause.

Those whiskers are definitely worn out...will have to try the carpet trick.

Merely a design flaw. Makes the car sound like a rattletrap . Those idiots never should have designed the "milk jug" plastic door panels. The assembly guys told the designers about all the problems. Those panels were horrendous; look like garbage, and I know that contributed to the E-Body's very poor sales .

Just make sure the door whiskers/seals/top seals don't leak. It's a real dirt/water/rust trap

My doors shut with no rattles at all and sound solid when shutting, your not adjusting them correctly. Their is not a design flaw it's the guy behind the wrench.
