Its looking more and more that im going to be stroking my 91 360 based LA block to a 408 for next season. There are a couple of heads upish classes that some guys my age are putting up for next season, involving cash, bragging rights, and way too many mustangs to count...Bottom 11's are where I would like to be on the motor (in fact as close to 11.01 as possible), but im not sure if its possible with these parts I already have and some stipulations i have to follow RHS heads as prepped by Brian at IMM (no port work) 1.6 Hughes Roller Rockers Factory roller block so would like to keep it hydraulic roller cam for cost and durability reasons (can idle like a pig for all I care too!) Max of 10.5:1 compression since it must run on 94 octane pump gas (this is a street car that sees upwards 3000 miles a year) 4.10 gears with a 4 speed and 28x12.5" tire (hopefully this gear and tire with a stick car aka no converter torque multiplication can get me where I want since 4.10's already kill me on the highway) 3400lb car with me in it I guess what im asking is with what I have and the restrictions I have to follow, are bottom 11's possible? I really don't want to change anything that I listed, but everything else is up for changing/modification....I am going to be getting with Brian for this build again since he is great to work with and knows his stuff, but I just wanted to throw this out there now and get an idea of whether or not my goals in my head are realistic I have a cheater kit sitting here brand new in the box as well, but if I can clean the clock on all the mustang guys around here in an all motor mopar, im definitely gonna turn some heads...plus I'd much rather stay N/A if i can Would be nice to put all the mustangs on the trailers in the only mopar in the field, and a stickshift one at that

No problem really. Give me a call whenever...it'll run high 10's after we're done! Brian

There is a really nice set of W2's for sale in the parts section that I am sure won't need any porting to outflow the RHS heads. I just can't figure why they would recast the magnum style head instead of a W2 or W5 base head....
Because the W2 can't be called a "factory replacement" head.
I can't see wanting a factory replacement head on a 408 for racing...Besides, the W2 was offered on at least one factory vehicle I can think of.

If you are talking about the original Little Red Truck that a magazine did a test on, it never made it into production. It was a pre-production engineering test which may not have been sanctioned by Chrysler to begin with. W-2's never got any closer to a production vehicle than that.
As mentioned by others, the RHS heads won't have a problem getting into the 10's, especially with the open rules you have.

MSHRED, I am going to be making some changes to my ride this off season as well. We should square up next year.
yea, that would be nice, but the distance is a bit of an issue lol
For all the replies, thanks guys! I was just worried that with the compression im limited to, as well as the tire size and gear (being a 4 speed and not an auto the sticks tend to like more gear, but I cant up it right now) I thought it might be a problem....If I can get it to work though, I will be extatic...like i said, im a young punk (22) and every other guy im racing is my age with a mustang, so it would be nice to put their ferd as#$% on the trailer with the "little green mopar"! lol

Should be EASY. You've seen video of Brians car running with that RHS headed stroker. Those were easy 11.00ish runs.
You're current heads are capable of in excess of 500hp. You have all the parts, sans rotating assembly and cam to get there. Smacking it with some juice will put it DEEP in the 10's if the chassis is up to it. Buy a window switch...
Hey Rob, I know Brian's car worked good...but he has more gear, which is what worried me that I won't have enough
I have the complete cheater kit, and I have a window switch on my mallory hyfire box if the need arises lol...but if I can do it all on motor, with a small block stroker at that, I would love it
Not to mention my car has no roll bar in it whatsoever, and this event won't need that, but I don't want to push it too far or I'll really scare the mustang kids and track officials lol

The torque of the stroker won't have any issue pulling the 4.10 gear. That gear will work well if you hit it with juice as well.
If you get it in the 510-520hp range it'll work just fine. Note Brians car had maybe 470-480 as it sat the night he ran it. If you have another 30-40 on tap, it's good to go.

perfect, sounds good! yea the 4.10's would be ideal for juice, and I drive this thing the 2 hours on the highway to the track, so any more gear and im going to need ear plugs and my own lane on the road to get there lol
If Brian can come up with a recipe for 500+ for me, which i am sure he can, then this should work awesome...Im super excited now...Christmas holidays come quick

If anyone has any combos they would like to share, please do would be nice just to see
I built a 408 a number of years ago with pocket ported J heads and a Hughes hyd flat cam. I ran a best of 11.89 @ 117 in an F-body with 3.91's and a stick and pump gas. The power was all done at 5500 rpm--the RHS's might extend that a little. I had way more fun with a stock stroke 360. J.Rob
Well its getting a stroker now regardless. If I was to keep the 360 and wanted bottom eleven's I would need a ton more gear which just isnt an option for how much and where I drive this thing on the street.
Im confident that with these heads and the right selection of parts mid 11's should be a breeze, and from what everyone else is saying, low 11's too
