Here is a Inverted shock tower with the correct scallop out of the inner fender... Stock valve covers.

.
here is with no valve covers... Engine has factory offset and location. BTW

good pic of modified inner fender area.

That mod make even the tall Keith Black aluminum covers clear. I was able to remove these in the car using bolts in the valve covers. Not studs.

In my 1965 Plymouth Belvedere I, I used Schumacher engine mounts with the Stock V/8 K Member and TTI 2 1/8" Headers and I did not have to modify the Passenger side shock tower nor did I have to notch the Passenger side fenderwell for valve cover clearance.

Moparphillie: To be sure I understand you, are you able to take off the valve covers without a problem?

I ask because I want to use the same mounts/k-member/headers in my 65 Coronet and I was dreading having to cut the shock tower up since it is finished as far as paint is concerned.

We have done this conversion many times without modifying the shock tower. The only thing we remove is the passenger side shock at the top to remove the valve cover.

Hey Brian,

Please see Bob George's response. I can remove the Passenger side valve cover without any major problem. It is easier to accomplish by removing the Passenger Side upper shock retaining nut, which is no big deal. I live in Centerville, OH, just up I-75. If you want to come by and check it out, just let me know.

Brian,
If you don't already have a car, let me know, my father is going to sell his. It is a 1964 Plymouth Savoy with a 426 Hemi. It is already set up to run NSS and IHRA AA/SA.

With the cast aluminum covers - I had to raise the motor - due in part from not inverting the shock tower. I'll try to attach a picture. I raised the motor buy placing a quarter inch thick spacer between the solid motor mounts which bolt to the block, & the rubber mounts. Prior to raising the motor - the cover sat on the tower, - was odd, seemed as if everything hit home at once.
