On the front drum with 5 thin discs, what is the minimum clearance? I'm thinking .060???? I have .055 now. I don't think that's enough...

It should be set up from .060 to .070

I'm using my thinnest ring. So is .055 to tight? Will it cause problems?

I don't think you will see a problem with .055

Thanks guys! I took it apart one last time and cleaned everything real good with brake cleaner got all the packaging grease off of the steels and pressed down on the discs. I got .057 I feel pretty comfortable with my results...

Now I just need some new snap rings for my governor.. I seem to have misplaced one

An easy way to pick up a little clearance is to thin the pressure plate in a lathe.

I have thinned the pressure plate on 4 904s went going from 4 disc to 5 disc. I measure the clearance, the take pressure plate to machine shop who surfaces it with grind stones.

I usually get about .055 plus or minus and open the clearance to .070..plus i get a nice clean flat surface on the pressure plate.
