Skip the ProTrans unless you just have to spend $5500. Tough little transmissions even with out anything special.

Im thinking about puting a 904 in my 69 CUDA project??
Whats you guys imput on these
BUILD::: 69 Cuda Street/Strip, Dana 60 456 gears (315 Dragradials) Ladder Bar and coil overs, 10 Point CM Cage, Magunm Force Front End, the Motor is a X block with W2 heads, made just over 650hp on motor, and Set up for a 300 shot of gas, the car is about 2750lbs
Sorry but for what it cost to build a GOOD 904, I would buy a Ultra bell and either put a glide or TH400 behind it. I don't see one advantage to running the Chrysler trans if you are starting from scratch.

I guess all those Comp racers are mistaken then. The glide is not as quick and the 400 eats a lot of horsepower. But if you just have to put a GM trans in your car...
BTW neither the glide or the 400 is going to be any cheaper.

Even the Chevy Comp cars are using an AMC 727 case with 904 guts in them. Sure they're not stock parts but for what he's doing the stock gear sets are plenty strong enough.

see, it can be done.
Of course it can. I've been a Chrysler Master Tech for over 30 years, I do it all from gas and diesel engines to automatic and manual transmissions to differentials, transfer cases, trim, driveability. electrical, etc., etc. There is nothing at all wrong with the 904, if you are hurting them under 800 HP you're doing something wrong.

If the glide isn't as quick, the convertor is WRONG. I'd be willing to bet a COMP car with a 904 case has ZERO factory parts in it, and class requires it to be a Chrysler case.
Personally I'd throw a stick in the car, but you can be sure THAT would not have one single Chrysler part in it either.
A glide will not be as quick as a ProFlite, right convertor or not. Even the ProMods have moved away from glides now and use a Rossler 210 3 speed.

At 950 total H/P you are going to have to use aftermarket internals no matter what trans you use. Using a 300 shot of spray your torque is going to be through the roof, so if you plan on using the pill on every pass a 'Glide or one of the 2 speed 400's may work better for you - you won't need the torque multiplication of a 904's 1ST gear.

I dont know what you plan on doing with the car but if its a bracket car I would just use the 727.. it wont have a heat issue... also if you plan on using a progressive controller the 727 will handle it
