Does ANYONE have a picture of the Direct Connection parts catalog... with Leal's Pro Stock Duster on it? If you could post it,I'd be VERY grateful! I wish I would have put that one in a protective casing...my favorite!

Have you seen the California Flash's Hemi Dart?
He only ran it (3) times..
The local Dodge dealer in NoCal changed hands and took it back..

Talked to Butch Leal for about 30 minutes @ the California Hot Rod Reunion (Famosa). Had tons of drag racing stories, drove for Ford > Plymouth > Dodge > Chevy > Plymouth ..

Just my $0.02..

Thanks for the cool pics,Stewart! I REALLY was hoping for the cover shot,though!...that image is burned into my memory banks forever! In my opinion, the 2 best Hemi A-Body paint schemes were the "Flash" and Landy's Dart Sport! Does anyone know where I could find a shot of that cover? Thanks in advance!

Not the whole cover but this may help. Sorry it's fuzzy.

Thanks,Jack! Did you take this pic from an existing catalog? The ONE detail that I admittingly DO NOT recall..is the CHROME bumper! I was expecting to see a painted fiberglass piece on the front of the Duster! Another detail is the NHOA banner, hanging on the wall! Thanks again Jack! Randy B.

That really doesn't look like a Pro Stock car and it would explain the lack of a fiberglass bumper and probably front end. Several A-body Pro Stocks did have chopped and channeled front clips.

Several Mopar racers did run in some sportsman classes in the mid '70's when, I believe, Chrysler pulled back on the Pro Stock program because of the unfair weight breaks.
Could it be a Super Modified car? (i.e.: B/SM)

It is the cover that was cut from a catalog and taped into a loose leaf notebook. The NHOA banner is separate and just happened to be on the same page in the loose leaf notebook.

Thanks fella's! John,I SHOULD have noticed the different paint scheme..and STOCK appearing front end of the car! I definately like the Pro Stock car's paint scheme better than the DC cover car's. But,they both look good to me! A LASTING impression was burned into my memory cells, when as a 19yr. old owner of a '71' 340 Duster..I was LUCKY enough to watch the likes of Landy,Sox,Nicholson,Gapp&Roush,Leal, and Jenkins...running their Pro Stock's in a National meet at Detroit Dragway, starting in'73! The looks and sounds of the Hemi cars were incredible, especially to an impressionable young kid with a street-racing car!

I was at the Winter Nationals in Pomona in (I believe) Jan Feb 1974. Could have been 75 or 76 also because I went every year to work on a car from the Northwest. Leal ran that DC cover car in B/MP and I believe won the eliminator or came in second. Long time ago for my memory.

I was struck by how clean the car was constructed. It almost appeared as though it came off of the assembly line and looked like it had.
It had a 426 hemi engine and I believe nearly everything was available in the DC catalog. Motor, transmission, Dana 60 and front suspension all looked factory. The interior, except for the seats looked factory. He used a Long style shifter and that was it, I don't even remember a tachometer.

Really a nice racer.

That is probably Leal's B/MP car - not his P/S car -- Mopar was getting out of P/S and had the contract racers, move into the Sportmans classes

Richie, thanks for posting the link to Butch's web site..cool pics! That '65' was a NICE car! Probably an A990 Super Stocker. Loren..thanks for the story! Racing without a tach? Maybe Butch didn't need one...changed gears with his "Ear Tach"! Some racers just have the GIFT! Thanks again,Stewart! I remember Chrysler getting out of Pro Stock..because the Hemi's had an UNFAIR advantage..and were whippin' the Brand X boys! From what I can recall,Grumpy was the LOUDEST in the complaint department! God forbid the "Grump" being unhappy!
