I pulled it out of my 71 with a/c . I cut a piece of aluminum to fit back side of firewall where box was to block off all the holes, scotch brited it for machined look and through bolted to box attachment holes. must have lost 15-20 lbs.not so nice in early spring or late fall but it is ago fast car and heater does not make it go any faster!

Removal was pretty straight forward, couple of nuts from engine bay and a bracket under the dash from what I remember, has been bout 15 years since i pulled mine

There's 4 nut's on the firewall, 2 heater hoses, Must take blower motor out before removing box.
Then inside there's peice of trim that has to come off, then 1 nut for the support bracket, Unplug vacuum hoses off the control switch, unplug the vacuum supply hose, glove box liner and then I'm not sure from there.
Save that box or send it to me!!
Oh yea have to unplug the blower motor from the windshield wiper motor plug at the firewall.
