On my 1971 Challenger convertible there are 2 rear seat catches per side, one right in front of the other. Why are there 2?

I've seen the same thing on all the E-body convertibles I've worked on.
I think that back floor pan was preassembled with the hardtop seat catch location. When used on a convertible, the second catch was added in the correct spot.
If you look at the total production of hardtops vs. convertibles, it probably wasn't worth messing with a second pan.

our 70 chally vert had two on the pass side. original floors in the car. I ended up removing the additional one on the pass side due to some interference with getting the seat bottom to stay down correctly.
