Installing new e brake cables on my 70 Challenger. It has the one cable coming from the pedal and then the 2 cables for the rear. Problem I am having is that the front cable seems too short and will not join up with the the balance bracket to allow me to thread on the nuts. The distance from the threaded part of the front cable to the balance bracket for the rear is about 1 1/2". I made sure that the pedal is not engaged, am I missing something?

Brakes are all assembled or just the cables through the backing plates? Cause when the cables are hanging free the springs will pull more cable out than will be pulled out with the brakes assembled...

assuming you are talking about the cable from the pedal, did you lay it beside the old one to compare the lengths?

I assembled the rear brakes and ran the new e-brake lines securing them to the bracket with the 2 clips. The e-brake is routed correctly. I did not adjust the rear brakes yet but would not think that would be an issue.

I usually do measure things and recall checking the lengths prior to installation. If I am not "missing something" then I guess I will have to pull and double check them. It's been several months since I routed everything but was just getting back to finishing it up.

It's a dry heat
local customer had this exact same issue on his 71 challenger.

turns out Inline sent him cables for a cuda instead of a challenger. He wasn't happy that day

That's what I am beginning to think Bill. I recall checking the the lengths but it is possible I compared rear cable lengths and forgot to check the front. There has been a lot of stop and go on this project and it has been a while since I was working on it. I'll pull the ebrake unit and cable and compare it to the old one in case I did miss it. FWIW, mine came from Fine Lines but the same thing could have happened.

Thanks guys. Joe
