Hi guys - I'm wondering if the area above the rear bumper and below the tail panel is suposed to be painted body color?
Mine is just oversprayed and the gap above the bumper sticks out like a sore thumb. Or does the bumper need to be lifted to close that gap up? There is approx 1/2~3/4" gap right now.
Thanks for any info!

cool, thanks!
looks like organosol it is, and not body color.

as with all these cars as we know, no two are the same. rayztoys factory schematics are a guideline. here is a closeup of my tail area with the original paint still there. little bit of overspray but not as the spec calls for. this is a LA Built 70 cuda. obviously the outside of the car was repainted once but they just taped everything off and left a lot of good reference areas to see.

The three examples shown (the tech guideline, the image posted by razy and the image of the original car) all seem different. I've been trying to figure this out, and it's mind numbing. Although the tech doc says the color break is at the center of the molding hole, it seems to show that everything is blacked out. I know there's no "right" answer, but it's hard to even figure out what's most correct.

Here are three 1971 cuda panels, all from the Hamtramck plant. It appears that any black paint was just some overspray, but it's very tough to tell on these.

hmmmm, now i'm just as confused as i was before.....
doesn't seem that anybody in the factory followed the guideline - my car included. it's just too bad that area looks so terrible (at least on my car).
thanks for the info guys!!!!!

thats why its best to just duplicate what you see on your own car, then it is correct and you have before and after photos to document if you are going the super detailed route

That works great if you have an all-original car. Most cars have been painted, re-painted and worked on by PO's. Thus the need to find out as much as possible about all the variations.

In the end, the car is yours and you should do what is going to make YOU happy. Is it going to the Nats for OE judging? If not, then who cares. I would paint it just like the EW1 car pictured. Makes the most sense to black out the area that might show in the gap area. Depending on the color of the car, it would stick out like a sore thumb if not painted organasol.
