this may sound elementary, but what is the recommended way or best way to bleed the brakes on my '70 A body.
Disc up front, drum out back

start with the wheel farthest from the master, right rear. then left rear. then right front then left front.

this is embarrassing...how exactly do you bleed brakes...I've never done it before

2 man is best and quickest, one pumps the break pedal up and holds the pedal down. As he is holding, the other man loosens the bleeder and air/fluid comes out. The pedal will go to the floor, make sure the guy does NOT let his foot off! Close the bleeder, and repeat. Make sure the guy pumping doesn't pump it when the bleeder is open, only when it is closed. It should only take a few times, the pedal will feel hard, and then move to the next wheel and do the same thing.

Go to Home Depot and get some clear tubing to put on the end of the bleeder and run it to a milk carton to keep things clean. You can also tell when the bubbles stop coming.
