It wasn't for looks it was an anti rust treatment since there were exposed areas on the drums with the ralleys and the road wheels.




Wouldn't black or even gray been better than painting them red?

If I may, I'll dog pile on some pix of a car I did. These were on my '70 Charger R/T. IIRC, it came from the factory with 14" rallies.
