I have several of the Indy valley plates, there is a huge(1/4inch+ on each side)gap betweenthe RPM heads and the Indy valley tray You might look at the valley tray from 440 Source It is one peice 1/8 inch( I think)flat steel bent at the intake sides inward(just like the ones from Koffels ) and does not have a removable center plate I used one several years ago on Johne Galambos motor with the B1-BS heads and it leaked a tiny bit Shame on me for not getting it sealed up properly

I used one with Eddie heads, never had a problem with it, didnt leak a bit, it comes with sheet metal screws to put the halves together, I used aircraft nut plates and a small bead of sealer between the havles, I would use one again on another BB build.

Could a guy just cut a big hole out of the factory pan -- and add a removable cover ?

Because the Performer RPM heads don't have an extended intake runner like the Indy heads do which creates a little overhang for their (Indy's) cover to slide under.

Regardless, I know at least one person (labratt?) used the Indy cover w/ Performer RPM heads and ended up RTV-ing the he11 outta it to seal it up.

Brad's correct!...and it actually worked! After Bob George, and Jeff from Modern assured me it would work, with a THICK bead of silicone on both sides...and letting it set up over night, before bolting the intake on. I ran it all season, with no oil leaks whatsoever!
