Bought a set of repo wheel opening moldings for a 1970 Coronet from Metro... front fit great, rears not so good!

Anyone else out there doing these??? My car has the original sheet metal so that's not the problem........

Tnx,
Bryan

Not that I'm aware of; the repops really are POS aren't they? I have a new quarter on the pass side but the drivers is original......and the mouldings don't fit either one!

I've been patiently waiting to find a good used or NOS set, but I've just about given up and will try to mount the stupid things.

Mine fit pretty good on OE sheet metal, but the screw holes were off. I think they are Metro...?

Now, if you really want to see terrible, check out the E body offerings for the rear... inches off! Talking about the ones from Dale's. The ones from Year One (maybe Metro?) are 'ok'... lots to be desired still...

How hard can it be??? Come on Mike Ross, you guys can make these right!

I had the same problem with repros I bought for my 68' Coronet. My quarter panels are original . The fronts were fine but the rears were a little off. What I did was tweek the rear ones. I would clamp them with plastic clamps and hit them with my hand so as not to dent them. They fit good now. However, a couple of the screw holes are off. What I noticed about these reprose was that the bead is not 100% correct when I compared them to the original ones that came on the car.
Maybe some one can chime in on this, but is there more than one company manufacturing these? Mine had stickers on them saying "Made in Taiwan".

Mine fit pretty good front & rear... But I started by welding up the original mounting holes, put them in place with spring clamps, shifted for best fit, worked them as needed then drilled new holes..

I'd leave them off but the car had them and rocker moldings so.... they are all going back on! I'll fit them as best as possible and wait for a better option....

Tnx,

Bryan

The ones I bought for my Dart from Metro needed lots of massaging to get on. They look good now but they did not just go right on as is.

So just to confirm, you bought these for a '70 Coronet and had no fitment issues? ....especially on the rear? Did the holes line up?

I don't mind spending ANOTHER $300.00 and adding a 3rd set of WOM's to my inventory IF I'm sure they aren't the same as the garbage I already have and they are made by a different vendor.....

Dave, I feel the same way... lol... I've got so many duplicates of parts if I ever buy another 70 Coronet I'll be set....

I just checked on Dale's website and he has them listed.. I'm going to phone them tomorrow to find out who makes them and go from there...

To my knowledge, there are NO proper fitting repop WOM's for 1970 Coronets.

Board member Gary Plessinger FY1TA who painted the car put them on while he still had the car at his shop. He seemed happy with the installation, and I am very happy with the finished results. I don't doubt he had to redrill some holes. I have dealt with plenty of e body repop WOMs so I know the struggles. I was surprised on how well the DCS ones fit what I think is a more complicated body line on the 70 coronets

Well, keep me posted. At my current resto rate (backwards!), you'll need them before I do!

Boy, my ears went up! I would like to see the photos of Dale's installed and I will keep tabs on this. I was going to leave mine off, but I have the vinyl top and the dress up trim on the belt line I want to use, so it just seems like the those lips will look naked without.

Now about those parts, Bryan...

I’m listening.

LOL... Lindy, man... I haven't stopped since July!

I'll be in the garage and get a parts list for ya along with pictures of the FK-5 dash pad. PM me your email again...

Also, I just ordered the wheel opening moldings from "Dales Cuda Shop" so I should have them in a few weeks..... they are NOT made by Metro and they've had no issues with them so... I'll give them a try and let ya know how they fit w/pictures.

Ok, got the set in from "Dale's Cuda Shop" and first thing noticed was the pre-drilled holes & screws included!!!!! So they've been test fitted and with very little massaging fit great!!! Both front and rears are almost perfect........

Also, I had mentioned when I was ordering that I was a member of "Moparts" and they offered a 15% discount and USPS shipping to Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pic's to follow once painted and installed...

Wanted to ask about the screw holes in the wheel opening mouldings from Dale's. Did the screw holes in the new wheel opening mouldings match up to the holes on your quarter panels? Also, is there a tag on the new mouldings that say where they were made? Thanks.

George

That's great news. Sounds worlds better than the Metro crap. I look forward to seeing the pics!
