I have a 87 dakota with a worn out 89 3.9 (but i used my pushrods from the 87 motor along with the cam and regular lifters when the motor was put in).

My Question is are the pushrods the same? wether it's a 87 non roller 3.9L vs 89 roller 3.9L? I have a rebuilt .60 over 3.9L Short Block assembly with rebuilt heads waiting to get put in, but there are some parts that I have to change over to the new motor, brackets, Carb, intake, ect, ect but I was woundering if I need to use the original 87 pushrods? the new motor also has a flat taplet camshaft

The lifter will determine the pushrod you need, a roller push rod will not work with a flat tappet, nor will it work the other way.

Stock type pushrods are pretty cheap, spring for a set of new ones.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

yeah i found a set & measured them and they are alittle shorter on the roller motors, so i will have to use my originals in the motor thats in it right now, yeah the 87 3.9L V6 was the first & last to be Carb and to have flat tappet cam then they went to TBI and Roller cams so i guess my 87 is kinda of rare in a way

heres a pick of the truck just for anyone who wants to look
