I have a bad ignition switch which I have ordered, but for the time being as this my daily driver I have been jumping it at the relay. This has worked up until this weekend when I it would not start so after tracing all wires ended up swapping out distributors (which car still has points) and fired right up. Figuring this meant I smoked the points I went ahead and replaced them in mine and swapped them back car did fine. This morning same deal, had to swap out distributors again! Does jumping at the relay burn points up that quick or am overlooking another issue? Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Jumping the starter solenoid at the starter relay does not affect the points. If you are also in addition jumping 12V straight to the coil positive primary terminal bypassing the ballast then yes it'll fry em in short order but more info as I dont feel I'm on the right track w your situation.
