There was an article in Mopar Action magazine about doing that and I think the various gauge restoration vendors can also do the work.

Don't bother, and don't ruin a good car.

When the battery went bad in my '98 truck, the volt gauge didn't show anything out of the ordinary.

An amp gauge would have shown if it was taking too much of a charge, a charge all the time, or even too little of a charge. Would have told me that the battery was going bad.

A volt meter on the battery itself showed nothing wrong, only a load test showed a bad battery, that and it stalling at stop signs, and a couple people here on Moparts said it could be the battery or a clogged sensor thing behind the throttle body.

Here's a to keep this going. There was a member here who did exactly what you're wanting to do. He did a nice write up about it,and told/showed what he used and how to do it. Good luck.

A good electrical shop such as Red Line gauges can take a fuel or oil pressure gauge change the front face, insert a shunt resistor and convert to a volt meter. Then it can bolt into the ralley dash and connect it across 12 volts. It is actually straight forward but because most guys are uncomfortable about wiring, its best to use an experienced electrical shop.

Just my $0.02..

I did the step by step article on here. Me and the search feature don't get along very well, maybe you'll have luck. Look for my name "Cudajon" and it's over a year old. My gage is working perfectly and I'm a lot more confident in my wiring since I got rid of the weak link, the Amp meter. Good luck.

You got an email. By the way of those gages in the picture I've rebuilt all of them except the fuel gage. Yes I even rebult the clock. All my gages work great.
