Ok, after fighting for two days now, trying to get my Challenger's pin calipers back on the car, I must be doing something wrong. New calipers, pads, rotors and pins. Try as I might, I cannot get both caliper pins to thread up. There must be a trick to doing this?

This is the first time I've had these off and if it's always this hard, may be the last time I do this ;0

Is it supposed to be this hard? What's the trick way to do this?

Are the pins straight?

Pins, calipers, bushings, pads and rotors are all new. Wagner and Raybestos parts, so the quality is good. Chased all the threads male and female?

There's a member on this forum that knows lot's about this subject.
But i don't any longer know who it is.

It appears that there is a difference in calipers where the holes are drilled on the "ears" of the mounting points of the calipers.

But that's about all that i remember about the subject.

I saved a photo from one of his replies.

Dunno if this might be your problem though, with you saying that you have replacement calipers.

Hmm, I wonder if this is part of the solution. I'm rebuilding my '71 Challenger which appears to have '73 spindles and calipers on it. Truth is, I'm not sure what year each part if from, beyond the spindles which I know to be '73's based upon the large bearing journals. The dust shield is the corrugated type and so also a '73 I think. the caliper support casting, not sure.

OK, took the pads out of the install. The caliper and pins fit and thread up fine. Something about the new pads is interfering with the install.

Hemi71x - You pointed me in the right direction. I mic'd the old caliper and the new caliper large bushing bore to the milled ear dimension. The NAPA premium rebuilt caliper was about 0.015 thicker. This caused an interference when I tried to get the two pin bolts in.

I put new bushings in the old calipers and they mounted right up!

Now I've got to get NAPA to order the replacement calipers in, there are none in the state! Wasted a week on this, but at least it's figured out.

Anyone know where to find the other caliper detail poster that Hemi71x referenced?
