I am interested in this too. I have heard some grumblings that 440 source sells a lot of good stuff except water pumps. The reports are kind of 50/50. The 440 source web site has very specific directions on what size gasket to use between the water pump and the water pump housing. I would think if you follow those suggestions that you would not have any problems.

I had heard that too and that is why I posted my question about the water pump housing. I don't know if 440 sourse got the problem resolved in the drivers side outlet type either and maybe the passenger side outlet since it is shaped different doesn't have this issue?

your better off using the factory housing. it's well engineered and flows plenty of coolant.

Well Dan, I would like to liten the engine as much as I can. Have you actually used that passenger side dump water pump housing?

a customer brought one in for his engine build along with some other parts. after comparing it to the original we decided not to use it. we both decided the weight loss wasn't worth the potential problems. maybe they've improved them since then.

If you get one I'd eyeball it good like should be done with any part (new or used) that way you can return it ASAP if it is restricted. EDIT What about calling them & asking if the problem has been addressed as they are aware of it

I have one of those housings here in the shop and it looks perfectly fine to me. I wouldn't have any issue running it.

there you have it. a couple people seem to like them just fine and some don't.
i only saw one of the passenger side outlet pump housings and it didn't look any better than their drivers side outlet pump housing.
Andy and Brandon are tight, so maybe he got the new and improved version.

I have one with the smaller passages. But I'm going to give it a go with a good pump. I've heard even the smaller passage ones flow enough water. But the pump was the issue. We'll see.

Yes, I installed a 440S housing+pump combo for a 440 about three years ago and NO over heating or any other negative issues

I have one for sale. I had used the original Mopar one for the last 30 years, but an engine explosion sent the cam into the back of the housing cracking it. I used the 440 Source one for the last 2 years. A friend of mine tigged the old one back together for me so I will use that again.
I guess this isnt the place for this, but PM me if interested.

I never know what to make of these threads.

all I can do is speak from my own personal experience.

4,000 miles on my 440 source rotating assembly with no problems. and yes, I scraped the bearings like brandon told me to.

I have a drivers exit 440 source pump housing, and did not do anything to it except bolt it on and replace the curved vane water pump with a straight vane water pump, so that I could spin the pump backwards with my custom serp. belt set-up, and have not had a single cooling problem whatsoever.

the "high volume" pump that is included with the housing uses curved vanes and I'm sure they work GREAT when spun the "right" direction. but with curved vanes, spin it backwards and it just cavitates. take a straight vane pump, and it won't matter what direction you spin it, water flow is exactly the same.

pretty simple answer. some people have tried the stuff and like it, others didn't. there's plenty on both sides of the fence. i wouldn't read any more into it than that if i were you.
