Finally got my Duster to a 8.805 @ 154.00 pass last weekend. The car has been running consistent 8.99-9.0's all summer but finally after tearing the engine down and finding out why I couldnt pull any vacuum going down the track I think we are finally getting all the bugs worked out. To bad it was on the last race of the year for us. Good to see everyone again. Eric

what was the vac issue
Issue ended up being my .043 ring pack and non gas ported pistons. I have Total Seal Gapless rings and with them being so thin the top gapless set would flutter under load and the gas from combustion was getting by and shattered the second ring which was ductile iron. Believe it or not when I pulled it apart every second ring in my engine was shattered in 12 or more pieces and I was still running consistent with the weather conditions. No smoke, no oil consumption I just could not get it to maintain vacuum with a Star Machine pump. I had several people tell me there was no way I had any major issues because it ran so good still. I tore it apart anyway.
Symptons before the tear down was -8" on the trans brake and dropped to 0/+.2 under load and when I let off and put it in neutral after going thru the traps the vac would go back up to -6 or more.
Had the pistons gas ported and went with the same rings again. Now I can maintain -8.1 inches all the way down the track.
Mopar Mega block, 540", Wiseco flat tops, Old Indy -1 heads @60cc hand ported with 2.250 intakes, Chrysler stroker crank, Glide, Dana 4:56 2840 pounds with me in it ready to go. 8.805 @ 154 so far.

Eric that is awesome! How much ET gain did you get from the new scoop vs. the old cowl hood?

With the new scoop sealed to the carb and some converter tweaking I'd say close to .18-.20 The converter had about 16% slippage at the top end and now I'm at 9%. I definetely need to get the carb dialed in now because by the RacePak O2 it looks like its a bit lean up to half way thru second gear. Also may try 4:30 or even some 4:10 gears.
Springer I do think we ran On Friday, Nice ride yourself..
