My wife was driving and she rolled up to a stop sign and stopped and our SUV quit. Just like she had turned off the key; not a stall, not a engine stopped running, all power in the SUV ceased. She shut the ignition key off and started it again, it sputtered for just a second and then no problems.

I was not there to diagnose but I cross examined her to within an inch of our marriage.

Never had this happen before, and I want to head it off before it leaves her and the kids stranded. any ideas? 145,000 with no major problems, regular maintenance.

Remove and clean the battery connections for a start.
Look for any rusty grounds.
Make sure the ignition switch was centered.
My wifes 05 durango has a goofy ignition switch where I can pull the key out any time. I have turned the thing off in the drive and pulled the key out and she said she would get in it and stuff would still be on and the key/switch wasn't all the way turned off even though the key came out. That make sense?
Could be carbon up throttle body, is it, has it idled ruff lately? 145K is a few miles, has it ever been cleaned or what Mopar says, replaced?

I wondered if the 5 pounds of bling hanging off my wifes key chain has anything to do with loose ignition switches?

Good luck with it.

No good stuff guys, some was right along my thinking. Forgot to tell what I had diagnosed so far...

1.checked main power feed from battery to the junction/fuse block and the ground (these vehicles have pathetically small ground straps on them!)

2.started and wiggled ignition key to try to cause issue.

3.also wiggled the connectors to and relays in the engine bay fuse block, the connectors to the different electrical blocks.

Also forgot to mention its a 4.7 engine if that changes anything.
