Hi all, Help, I need some opinions please. I bought a set of Rallye wheel center caps from Layson's (I was told they're identical to the ones sold by Specialty Wheel - does anyone know if this is true?). The caps appear to be made of pot metal, and are held on from the back of the wheel by five screws. I chased the threads with a tap before attempting to mount the first one. At least three of the five holes are almost completely stripped out, and don't even provide enough bite for the screws. There's no way they'll hold the cap onto the wheel. I haven't tried the other three yet. Has anyone else had this problem? How do you solve it? Thanks for any suggestions. Roger

I have some stripped holes in my factory ones. Was going to try and repair with some Moroso Miracle Seal epoxy. When I get around to it is another story

Back when I was running Rally wheels I heli-coiled every hole, all twenty.. Stronger & then bolts thread in easily whereas the original threads were always iffy feeling....

Originally the holes weren't tapped, Chrysler used 1/4-20 self tapping bolts so the threads weren't very good.. I've seen plenty that were held with 1/4" sheet metal screws... So yeah it sounds like the repos are pretty accurate..

The head on the factory bolts were not as thick as a normal bolt. You also have to make sure the head of the bolt isn't too thick, so it doesn't contact the drum before the wheel does.
