I didn't want to mess up the Wiseco/Diamond thread so thought I'd start my own....

Re: Wedge shelf pistons:

How would you compare the quality of SRP products
vs Diamond?

How would you compare SRP products to Wiseco?

I know "just buy them and make up your own mind", but it'd be cool to hear any opinions before laying down the cash.

Is an SRP shelf stock Wedge piston comparable to the two others, in your opinion?

What sort of a build are you talking about?

Sorry Brad....I was asking or comparisons to the the Pro Tru, since that's all I have used before. Not the super whiz bang models.

This particular question was for 4 & 3/8 bore, 3 and 3/4 stroke flat top big block stuff. But any general quality comments are welcome.

Stroker things will be coming along too, but I've got Wiseco pistons for the 4.500x4.150....and the other one that will need 4.560 or more with an as yet unknown stroke will have to get customs, and will more than likely be Diamond since they're local/easy to deal with and so on. You'll be in the loop like always.

The srp's looked like good nice bang for the buck, and wanted to try them on a couple stock block buildups at some point.

I have the SRP's in mine and they seem to be real nice quality. I would assume they are the same quality as JE since they are made by the same co. I have the flatops in my 499 R/B.

I went with SRPs in my SB stroker. I compared prices and specs on just about every piston available for my combination and they were the best bang for the buck.

FWIW, I got my through CNC Performance.

I was thinking SRP is the econo line of JE Pistons.
SRP's are good pistons... Diamond can make some nice pistons. I had a custom set made and they were killer. Now CP pistons are better than any of these mentioned.

the SRP's are and okay piston, so are the Pro-Tru's. i don't consider either of them a top quality piston, more like middle of the road quality wise. we use them in mild to medium street/strip combo's. for the more serious stuff we use Diamond Pistons. sometimes the drawback to the typical shelf SRP and Pro-tru comes in the form of valve pocket diameter and depth and also wristpin size availability.
with Diamond i can change that stuff for a small fee to better fit the application. the overall quality and strength from Diamond is far superior overall IMO. just so you know, we handle all of the above lines so there is absolutely no bias in my reply.

Check out ross too. Their website lists all stocking pistons with weight dimensions what stroke and rod etc etc. Their pistons are very lightweight and cheaper than a lot of other pistons.

I've been using the SRP small block flattop pistons in my crate motors for several year. They are legal replacements.
I've been very happy with everything about them - price, quality and weight.

Summit carries them and you can get a Pro Shop discount if eligible & signed up.

The SRP's are a good quality shelf stock piston. Are they top of the line? No. Will they work for an intended application? Yes, if they fit the bill. I would always prefer to use a shelf stock piston if possible just because of the $ savings, I'm not looking for every last .10 of a horsepower. Unfortunately I can't use a shelf stock piston as the valve reliefs can't be made deep enough without hitting the upper ring land. But if they'll work for you and you aren't talking about an all effort engine I wouldn't hesitate to use them.
