So, who has used either of these products, and how did they perform? I was considering doing the GM HEI conversion, but I would prefer to have everything in a single package, of you know what I mean.

TIA!!!

Anyone???

I have run a pertronix IgniterI in a reman points dist for the last 15+ yrs now.

I have the 40,000 volt flamethrower coil that goes with it,the BR by-passed for full 12 volt to conversion, coil has been mounted horozantal all this time.

not a single problem so far out of either trucks I have converted from stock elect, ign. 68 dart/85 truck/88 truck.

I have it for a Mallory duelife duel points mech dist to try real soon also.

it simple and works for me

Same here. I have the Ignitor 2 and Flamethrower 2 coil mounted horizontally just like the stock coil. No complaints. Went in easy, starts easier, idles better, runs stronger. Someone mentioned this is another thread and I often forget to mention to other, but you have to "egg out" one of the mounting holes in the pertronix peice that bolts to the dizzy in order to get the proper gapping. I made the same mods as scratchin mentioned above per his recommendations and I couldnt be happier

Does the Pertronix plug and play distributor work as well as the Pertronix conversion?

That I dont know. I would think that they would if all they were doing is installing their kit into a rebuilt dizzy or something but, IDK. I used their kit into a parts house dizzy.

Check out the amount of advance in the DUI setup. I was looking at one for a brand F conversion and both mechanical and vacuum advance are limited... not enough for this applicaiton. I'll likley get a pre-smog parts house reman distributor and convert to Pertronix or add an ignition box.

Is it cheaper to convert a distributor than to buy a plug and play?

IMHO,yes its cheaper than plug and play dist.

mine was a 30$ reman points dist,79$ for the conversion kit,40$ for the flamethrower coil.

some one had a post on the pertronix plug and play dist,IIRC they had trouble wireing it up or something...do a search for plug and play pertronix maybe??

I think that the pertronix and the davis are both great.

But the davis wins with me due to it's one wire hookup, it's coming calibrated per the specs you give when you order, no coil wire, no box, and no BS in a nutshell.

One of the things I have always hated about mopars is their junk ignitions. Davis straightened that out nicely.

The pertronix with ignitor 3 module is the one to get IMO if you go that route. I think it's the same price too as the earlier units.

I went with the DUI in my latest build for the same reason you indicate. Seems to be a quaility piece and good customer support. Performance-wise, the DUI appears to perform well.

I've heard some small blk, A-body that firewall clearance may be an issue. Also, some big block, head, valve cover combinations may be tight too.

At the time, I also considered the MSD E-curve distributor. I've heard Pertronix are quality dist. however, I don't have any firsthand experience.

Good luck.

Looks like I will be ordering Pertronix Ignitor I kits (#1382) for my dual point prestolite distributors. I had been waiting for a new single lead MSD conversion kit that was due out, but found out today from a MSD rep that the production of the kit was canceled ...

The ignitor 3 module has the built in rev limiter if I remember correctly. I would definitely go for that. but that's just me. If you dont need it, any of the ignitor modules are good.

I prefer the davis myself since fitment isnt an issue in my dakota, but I really like the pertronix distributors as a whole. Really nice parts.

It appears that Pertronix only offers Ignitor I kits for the dual point Prestolite distributors... I would be interested in a ""II" or "III" kit if available...
