Put it in a vice, take the blade off a hack saw, put it through the sleeve, reattach blade to hacksaw... then cut the sleeve out.

Try that & you'll be cutting the control arm... There is a step between the back of the pocket that receives the bushing & the pocket that receives the torsion bar...

I stand corrected. In the past I've cut the lip with a dremel and then chisled down to collapse it.

Anyone have any tricks for pressing out the LCA bushings? I don't have a press, so maybe someone has a good tip.

Thanks!

Yep, read this tech article.

I've done dozens of sets of control arms & this is probably the easiest method...

FWIW, I had the little tool deal from AR to remove mine but regarding pressing the new bushings back in. I called around and found a tire shop that had a press. They were very careful and did not scratch the refinished LCAs at all. Charged me 15 or 20 bucks to do it.

Thanks. I already pressed out the pivots, but don't remember the inner sleeve of the bushing coming out with them. I'll check this weekend.

I already removed/installed the UCA bushings using hand tools made for that purpose (you can get them at Mancini). I will use them to install the LCA bushings, too. Getting the old ones out is the problem.

The inner sleeve of the LCA bushing is still on the pivot shaft. Look, you'll see it there. To remove it, you need to make several thin slits around the cicrcumfrence of the the sleeve. I did this with a dremel tool and a small slitting wheel. I think used a cold chisel to open these slits up a bit. This releases the press fit stress and the sleeve then just falls off the shaft.

There is no way to put the LCA bushing on without having a hydraulic prsss available. It takes a fair amount of force to do the job. The Moparts article cited above is a great help. You'll need a few arbors to do the job correctly.

I got them out in about 10 min using the tool I picked up from AR. Made it really easy. Now to blast and paint the LCAs. I already have access to a press to put the new bushings in so I think I am all set. Thanks everybody!

Takes only a few minutes to remove the OD bushing shells from the LCA semi-blind hole with the American Muscle tool and a piece of tail pipe.

Photo shows the tool halves digging in to the shell wall.

Optical illusion: the tool marks look really deep but are actually only a small fraction of the shell thickness. The near side exterior shell wall shows no evidence of the other set of tool marks, even though they are there on the inside. The shell comes out cleanly with zero marks on the LCA.
