Pretty rare to have a chain break. I would check over the valve train carefully to see if anthing there failed first causing the cam gear to lock up. Assume you checked cam/crank gear alignment upon initial set up? Doubt if there is any "linkage" between the trans and chain failures.

Well finally got my duster back to the track after trans failure and I somehow ended up with a broken timing chain. Ive never seen that one before looks like I may have gotten reletivly lucky I can only visually see 2 bent valves. Has anybody experianced this or have some I dea what may have caused it The chain was a sa gears roller with 9 key ways and a torrington bearing in a pretty high reving 512 (7000 rpm) any recommendations as what to replace it with?
I use the Cloyes True Roller Timing sets, I have seen 8400 RPM on my playback tach when I broke a trans yoke in 1st gear, same RPM one other time when the six pak opened in the water during a burn out This motor is a 518 low deck with a Comp Cams custom solid roller cam and Comp Valve springs(680 lbs opended, 275 lbs on the seats) Harland Sharp rockers and good pushrods, Eddy RPM heads with there stock valves As already said, see if you can figure out what went wrong first, did a valve guide gall up and grab a valve or something similar or did the chain break first Let us know what you find. Sorry for the problems, when it rains it pours when it comes to race cars and parts usually Let us know what you find
