Underside shot, after this shot they did a (very small) bit of touch up in a few spots adding paint to make it match the original over spray

What was the point of spraying the bottom black? Why did the factory do that? If it was undercoating, I could understand why but why black paint?

The factory didn't actually PAINT the bottom of the car black. The bottom of the car was dipped into a tank of a protective coating that was black or dark gray. That is why our cars have all those drain holes in the floor pans and frame rails.

Los Angeles cars had the darker almost black color dip, other plants used grey

For those following this post, Washington state just leaglized the casual use of canibus so expect this build to take a little longer than previously expected

Awesome! Now quit posting and get to work - the meter's running.

Old, tired, and sometimes broke down. Me, not my car...

No not yet, still thinking about options.

Meanwhile I'm just going to build a stock setup to get the car on the ground. I'll be using all Moog parts and rubber bushings, etc. throughout, but with 73-later spindles and BB disc brakes with BB 14" Rallye wheels. I am also building a second 8.75 rear end that I bought, I'll be using a new Dr.Diff Center section and BBP axles for the 14" BBP wheels and reproduction Goodyear Polyglass tires, and will be using stock rebuild leaf springs.

So, basically I'll have:

One setup that's all NOS parts and the stock SBP KH disc brakes, assembled, detailed and bagged, and a set of SBP Rallye wheels to go with it.

The stock original looking setup with Moog parts and a few small mods like brakes and wheel BP, going under the car for now as described above.

Then a 3rd setup with all of the upgraded handling componants which I'll install later on once I decide on the combo.

lol so explain the reason for 3 different setups? I'm assuming one is to make sure the car is fun to drive and drive smoothly. I'm assuming the stock one will be in case you ever sell it and then you'll install that setup?

No Tom, I'm good, I have this 71, a newly aquired 70 3x TX9 340 4gear, a /6 3 speed 1970 Duster, and a spare 71 parts car.

...but like I told you'll need an Orange 340 4spd one if you're ever going to complete your "color wheel" collection
