Seems like a couple of months ago, there was a post about using sliders in lieu of rear spring shackles with leaf springs. I'm curious as to how that system was working on bracket/NSS cars? Have you folks that are using them had better success than using leaf springs with rear shackles and if so, what performance levels were achieved? How much lower did the car set after the slider installation and were there any detrimental effects? BAM, let's hear what's going on after these modifications were accomplished, THANKS!

Jim Guy put sliders on his 64' car. I amsure he would fill you in on if/how they helped.

Good question. I am in the middle of putting these on my car at the moment. My best guess is that it will lower the rear of the car about 1-1/2". It is about a 3" difference at the shackle end of my springs.

I went to a Dave Morgan Seminar, and he was a big fan of the sliders. From what I hear they work well. I guess I will find out first hand.

Mine have been on my car for 3 years with no problems, it lowered about 1 3/4,we put them in the frame rails after notching them out.Mine sees a lot of street duty as well and has low 1.42 60 fts.

Bob's ProFab put them on with the CalTrac's
Not sure of the ride height difference but they work!

Who's sliders is that in the picture of your original post? I have Afco's and they look a little different. Same basic idea, the Afco's were $80 each. Is there cheaper ones that are still a good unit?

i have a set of afco's on my car. i did them the same time as the caltracs so i don't really have a before or after. they seem to work good, i have a ton of street miles on mine also, are they any better. im still not really convinced either way.

Put a set on from speedway motors to correct a clearance issue. Lowered the car about an inch. 13 runs on it since The car was completed and so far so good.

The picture is a generic one from Speedway. They're basically a copy of the Afco roller sliders at half the price but I don't have a clue as to their quality.

Wish I had known about the cheaper Speedway unit.

I posted pics of sliders I installed and was chastised because I mounted them level. They would work a little better if they were angled with the arc of the spring. I used them as it was easy to fit them against the frame. I notched the front frame to get the springs as high as I could sense we are no longer planning on hauling wood. LOL

Have not ran the truck yet. Owner has really slowed down on me. If you know what I mean.

So when they are install at ride height and car is on the ground with full weight on them. Are they install center or toward the back ? How long are they ? What is the full travel of them ? And why would they be better then shackles that are mounted right ?

From the other thread mentioned above, here is a good tech article on the Afco sliders. http://www.afcoracing.com/tech_pages/leaf.shtml

They ride on a bearing which is free VS riding in
rubber which tends to bind then snap free... its
just smoother

Not to mention it helps eliminate rear end sway.

From memory when I installed them, the spring eye is to be around a 1/4"-3/8" past centre, toward the rear of the car. I think there is install information available on the Afco site, which I suggest would be worth looking for.

FYI I called Calvert and asked them about sliders. In their opinion the did not improve your suspension over a properly set up shackle. By "properly set up" they meant no binding and the correct working angle. This was one month ago.
