This is more of an answer than a question but I thought it was cool enough to pass along.

A collection of 20 youtube videos showing a torqueflite rebuild from start to finish. Haven't gotten through the whole thing but it was makin more sense than readin a book and has really good camera work. Call it 727 101.

MANY of these Utube vids miss A LOT of things ...

Case in point ...I R&Red a water pump on a 3.3 in a Caravan. The operation seemed like a breeze on the vid ... but they missed the aspect of getting the bolt out and in at 10 oclock. A real maggot-farmer.

Also ...failed to mention that MUCH care should be taken upon removal of ALL those small bolts. They are famous for breaking off ... if the treads are corroded.

Videos are very informative and good for those with instant recall but nothing beats being able to flip a book open to the desired page and being able to have multiple pages to flip back and forth to while doing a job.

BETTER get the right book !

The Haynes and Chilton manuals leave LOTS to be desired.

I used the Munroe book as a guide to rebuilding my BB727, along with advice/parts from Pat Blais Transmissions, Seattle. Good book and good guy.

My FSM is always my best resource and wasn't implying that this vid collection was any kind of substitute. A lot of people get hung up on the percieved difficulty of a trans build and I think one lap around this presentation would connect a lot of dots between what the book says and what it looks like.

I bought the ASTG book for my 904 rebuild. It was pretty much a reprint of the FSM. The one thing I did get for the money was the service bulletins. Not sure they were worth the extra money.
It was my first transmission rebuild. It was not totally smooth (sticking weights in the governor kept it from shifting) but it is working well now.
