I've read the "horror" stories of trying to paint organisol stripes on hoods. It appears that even professional paint shops have problems applying this stuff.

Has anyone successfully used a substitute that is close to the organisol finish? If so, what did you use and show us some pics.

no pics, but I used Centari Pitch Black with liquid flattener and came pretty close.my mix was in the 6 to 4 range...paint to flattener but was still a bit shiney in my opinion.

Try out Rustoleum BBQ black with 10% black powder coat paint by volume. Sporting goods stores sell the powder in small quantities for fishing jigs. It makes a nice satin/flat finish with texture like the original.

Try it out on a sample panel and see what you think.

PPG has the organisol formula in enamel. I just use the slow reducer and it shoots better than the laquer, flows out and is not rough and grainy.
Here is the hood I did. Still looks awesome after 3 years.

Call the local PPG Ditzler dealer you can buy DDL9355 organosol black in lacquer. You can also buy DCC9355 which is organosol black in urethane.

My buddy at the body shop used SEM bumper paint for the tail panel on my Cuda. It has the right look, is readily available and can be touched up easily if needed. I highly recommend it after 3 years it still looks fresh.

I just finished a 68 Hemi Road Runner for a customer and I tryed a new Base coat/ultra flat clear coat on the hood black out treatment. It looks good and it shouldn't be that easy to scrath like the original style black that was used. And...since it is a clear coat if you get wax on it, it shouldn't leave a white wax film...but naturally I haven't tryed it yet..
